10 Works You Should Know: Nicole Woodbury
As a celebrated sculpture artist and co-curator of the Latter-day Saint Women’s Art Show Certain Women, Nicole Woodbury’s perspective on Latter-day Saint Art has a unique vantage point.
To curate her list of 10 works, she drew selections from Certain Women’s recent exhibition “Brave Like Eve.” Nicole writes:
"The belief that Eve was wise—and that her decision to partake of the fruit should be celebrated rather than denigrated—is unique to the Latter-day Saint faith. We believe she foresaw that humanity would not exist unless she and Adam partook of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and that she trusted explicitly in the Savior’s atonement.
“Many of these pieces, created from the previously unexamined perspective of Latter-day Saint women artists, feature themes that amplify one another. In my selections, I sought to group these works in a certain order to highlight their collective impact. These pieces further the veneration of Eve by portraying her decision-making process and analyzing the aftermath of the Fall."
