Daniel Martinez

Uruguay, visual artist

“Since I was a child, I've dabbled in drawing, painting, and later sculpture, but due to life's demands, it wasn't until 2020 that I dedicated myself more exclusively to watercolor. In March of that year, with the arrival of COVID-19 in Uruguay, parties and social events were banned, and since I'm a professional photographer, I felt the need to do something while we were going through this uncertain situation. I began practicing at home, training via Zoom, and began to feel very comfortable and eager to continue improving. Since then, some training opportunities have arisen that I have taken advantage of, and I hope to continue on that path. I found in watercolor a form of expression and connection with others that I hadn't been able to achieve before.”

At the Residency, Daniel plans to create a series of watercolors that explore how the city’s urban landscape communicates through its architecture, people, and rhythm.
