Tears and Fears

I didn't anticipate that doing a podcast would be such an emotional thing. But when you're talking to people who really open up about their lives--and that includes bad times as well as good times--you can't help walking around in their shoes for a while.

Jamie Erekson talked about the pain in his family caused by the death of his grandfather at age 32 from polio and how as he researched the man, he found himself sobbing. And Annie Poon spoke matter-of-factly about her life making art with mental illness. The phrase she used was "joy and terror."

I'm aware that access to these wonderful people (with many more to come) is a privilege. I hope I can do justice to their stories.
