Detroit Underground

By Benjamin Taylor

I composed, for the final issue of The Season, a title track to a hypothetical video game named Detroit Underground. I wrote it as part of the MCA Video Game Scoring Workshop, which is an online summer music composition program I direct. As a full-time freelance composer writing primarily for orchestras and wind bands, I’ve been interested in video game scores for a while now, so in the January 2023 issue of The Season, I wrote an article titled, “Game On!: LDS Composers Writing Video Game Music Soundtracks.” It featured the work of Jeff Broadbent, Lance Montgomery, Joshua Aker, Ron Saltmarsh, and Chance Thomas. I wanted to try my hand at it, too.
