10 Works You Should Know: Photography

List by Veronica Harvey

Sometime during my mission, I remember being taught that bearing witness was a spiritual gift.

Now that I take photographs, a question I get asked frequently is “are you going to bring your camera?” Usually, I don’t even have to be asked. Recording and documenting has become a responsibility I assume quite willingly.

While these images by Latter-day Saint photographers were created as fine art, I see a similar effort to bear witness through them. I see a desire to preserve history, to appreciate nature’s creations, and perhaps to see humans as children of God. I see an effort to capture the pervasive experience of parenthood (a life stage that simultaneously interrupts and spurs on artistic output). I’ve ordered the images here along those themes.
