Exodus 35–40 recounts the building and completion of the Tabernacle, showing how the Israelites contributed their skills, materials, and time to obey God’s instructions. Skilled artisans crafted the Ark of the Covenant, the altar, lampstand, priestly garments, and all furnishings exactly as God commanded. The Tabernacle was consecrated, and God’s glory filled it, demonstrating His desire to dwell among His people. Instructions for worship are given. Burnt offerings symbolize surrender and devotion, while the Day of Atonement emphasizes God’s holiness and the importance of repentance and intercession. Finally, laws and commandments are given to increase the Israelites holiness and help them become more like God.
God’s desire to dwell among His people is realized by the creation of modern day Temples. Doc Christensen's work, Mountain of the Lord, emphasizes the holiness of temples, and leads our thoughts to the service, worship, and sacrifice that are central to building a relationship with Him.
