Exodus 7–13 records the confrontation between God and Pharaoh, revealing the Lord’s power over Egypt and its false gods. Through Moses and Aaron, God sends a series of plagues. Each plague intensifies the pressure on pharaoah to release the Israelites. Highlighting the miracles God will do for his people and the hardness of Pharaohs heart. As judgment unfolds, we also see God's love and mercy, particularly in God’s protection of the Israelites. The institution of the Passover marks a pivotal moment, teaching that deliverance comes through obedience and the blood of the lamb. With the final plague, Pharaoh finally releases Israel, and centuries of bondage come to an end.

Consider the seriousness of resisting God, the power of redemption, and the faithfulness of a God who delivers His people by the hand of an imperfect servant. Tyler Carter's digital painting created for his animated film, Anubis, invites us to feel the weight of standing against overwhelming struggle, but doing so with God.

Gospel Questions

1. Sacrifice in one form or another has always been integral to God's plan. What could you sacrifice that would bring you out of bondage and closer to God?

2. The plagues showed God’s power over Egypt. Do you at times rely on your own strength instead of trusting God’s authority?

3. The Israelites had to follow specific instructions for the Passover. What blessings have you recieved after being obedient, even when you didn’t fully understand?

For Children and Youth

1. Why did Pharaoh continue to refuse to free the Israelites even after so many plagues? How do we make sure we don't act as Pharaoh did.
